Sketches and Moodboard
For this project, I made a safety poster about the benefits of wearing sunscreen. At the time of making the poster, it was the middle of summer. I did some research about the benefits of sunscreen and the sun’s effects on the body, and I learned that a large percentage of African Americans who have melanoma (skin cancer) are diagnosed in the later stages. The main reasons for that include misconceptions about wearing sunscreen in the African American community and that melanoma presents differently in different skin tones.
Final Product
Another thing I had to think about was in what kind of spaces this information would be relayed. I already knew I wanted this to exist in a public space, so I needed to figure out what other format would work. In the context of the city of New Orleans, I looked to the streetcars and buses that have spaces inside remove dedicated to relaying information and for ads. So, I chose a horizontal format.
